The short film “La Panchina” was created as part of the project “Per farla breve”, curated by the volunteer group for people with disabilities “Quelli del Sabato”, with the participation of two young actors from the Association of Parents and Children with Down Syndrome of Arona, the amateur Twirling group of Oleggio, and the San Giovanni Bosco Band of Bellinzago, funded by the Piedmont Region and the Province of Novara, and sponsored by the municipalities of Bellinzago, Oleggio, and Verbania.

The activities began in November 2010, with a theater creativity course for the kids, aimed at creating and writing a film subject, with the help of director Daniela Niola. Afterwards, acting workshops started to improve body expressiveness and mimicry, with Dilva Rossi, actress of the theater company “C'era l'acca”.

Script and actors began to take shape; locations were identified (Parco Beldì in Oleggio and two houses in Bellinzago), scenes were defined, and a working team was built, bringing together professionals from all over Italy. From August 1 to 6, 2011, filming took place. 10 actors, 50 extras, 25 volunteers, and a crew of 15 professionals for a single great goal: an original and high-quality short film.

“La Panchina” won the award for Best Short Film among the 160 shorts entered in the Piemonte Movie Film Festival.
